TREES

Retama

Leguminosae Parkinsonia aculeata

Dark green bark, lacey leaves, and yellow flowers from late spring to early fall define the Retama.  Plant in full sun in the background where the sharp spines on the branches will not be a problem.  In severe winters it may die back to the ground, but should grow again from the roots in the Southern half of Texas.
